Job Overview:
As an Ophthalmology Technician you will part of larger team of eye care providers working in a fast paced clinic. You will support both internal and external ophthalmologists by performing tasks such as measuring vision, taking eye pressures and administering a wide variety of diagnostic tests such as colour vision, visual fields and ophthalmic imaging. These measurements and assessments help the ophthalmologist with the management and diagnosis of ophthalmic disorders and diseases. As an Ophthalmology Technician you will remain up-to-date regarding testing protocols, assists with equipment maintenance and recommend equipment upgrades to serve patient and program needs. You may be involved in training and educating student or other staff as well as assist in reviewing policies and procedures to support the clinic.
What you’ll have:
- Knowledge of applicable Hospital and departmental guidelines, protocols and practices
- Previous experience working with Forum or other ADT (Admitting, Discharge & Transfer systems) preferred
- Computer literacy required; preferably in a Microsoft Office environment
- Good level of manual dexterity and visual acuity
- At minimum, 1 year practical and related experience
- Ability to interact confidently and reassuringly with patients
- Ability to perform responsibilities in a professional and courteous manner
- Experience working in a hospital environment is an asset
- Problem solving, communication, organization, time management skills
- At minimum, completion of high school and additional 1 year in a general sciences program or recognized equivalent
- Accredited Ophthalmic Technician Training Program or certification through the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) preferred
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work in accordance with Hospital patient centered practices and principles
