Job Overview:
The position will require the candidate to support equipment at multiple sites as needed: Toronto Western Hospital and Toronto General Hospital, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, and Toronto Rehabilitation Institute.
What you’ll do:
- Performing cross-functional duties, as assigned or requested;
- Working closely with clinical users to provide technical support being highly responsive to their needs;
- Performing other duties consistent with the job classification, as required.
- Monitors and maintains quality of equipment;
- Keeping accurate service records for equipment;
- Inspection of incoming new equipment, preventative maintenance, repair and technical support specifically for surgical instruments.
- Providing front-line technical support (maintenance and repair) of Surgical Instruments, endoscopes and other associated medical equipment;
What you’ll have:
- Must be able to work evening shift hours and comply with on call duties if required
- Membership with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists an asset.
- Minimum three years of experience in maintaining surgical instruments is preferred

- Completion of a community college diploma in technology related discipline or completion of a recognized machinist program at a technical institute or community college, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, required.
- Equipment Maintenance – Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast paced environment.

- Hands on dexterity: For maintenance of surgical instruments and endoscopes; an eye for precision, hand dexterity and competence in repairing techniques.
- Membership with the Canadian Medical and Biological Engineering Society an asset.

- Training for surgical instrument maintenance, flexible and/or rigid endoscope service (by OEM and/or by qualified endoscope repair organization) is preferred

- Experience working in a hospital environment, or surgical instrument OEM service department or surgical instrument repair service provider is preferred
- Mechanical skills: Set up and operate a variety of machine tools to repair precision surgical instruments. May also fabricate and modify instruments, applying knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
