Job Overview:

An integral member of the Joint Department of Medical Imaging (JDMI), the Clinical Instruction Lead oversees the clinical education of medical radiation technologist students in the discipline of radiological technology. This includes being accountable to maintaining relationships with academic partners, ensuring appropriate professional and interprofessional learning opportunities, student safety and well-being, coordinating student assessments and learning plans, and supporting those in the department engaged in teaching. The Clinical Instruction Lead must demonstrate high standards of clinical practice knowledge, skill, and patient care, while also maintaining comprehensive knowledge of the Medical Imaging discipline program curriculum and relevant competency profiles and scopes of practice to facilitate the effective teaching of all Medical Imaging learners in clinical environments across the JDMI partner sites. It is expected that the Clinical Instruction Lead will participate in academic and professional growth/development activities, courses and programs to enrich and enhance pedagogical and practice skills and to convey those to medical imaging staff within the department who engage with learners. As contributing members of the broader medical imaging team, the Clinical Instruction Lead will participate in quality initiatives and program development across the JDMI partner hospitals, considering learner needs while maintaining clinical operational workflows and processes. The Clinical Instruction Lead will perform cross-functional duties consistent with job classification, as required.

What you’ll do:

  • Engages in relevant continuous quality improvement to address identified operational or programmatic challenges as they relate to teaching and learning.
  • Demonstrates high standards of clinical practice knowledge, skill, and judgement
  • Collaborates with relevant partners within and outside of JDMI to optimize aligned and informed experiences and opportunities in clinical education
  • Works in compliance of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations, reporting hazards, deficiencies and contravention’s of the Act, in a timely manner.
  • Engages in Multitasking and management of multiple priorities and students across sites
  • Appreciates the current guiding practice legislation and best practice frameworks
  • Recognizes and addresses opportunities for innovation and growth related to clinical education and optimizing integration of learners in the clinical environment
  • Performs cross-functional and/or other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned or requested.
  • Develops and operationalizes plans for clinical placements, including rotation schedules, learning objectives, assessments, and learning plans as required
  • Demonstrates and fosters appropriate pedagogical approaches to adult teaching and learning
  • Demonstrates appreciation for academic curriculum and competency requirements for clinical learners
  • Assumes responsibility for safe clinical and teaching environments.
  • Maintains a safe, supportive, and enriching learning environment for clinical learners

What you’ll have:

  • Certification with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) required
  • Completion of a clinical educator certificate program preferred
  • Word processing skills on a PC, required
  • At minimum, completion of a bachelors degree or recognized equivalent required.
  • CT knowledge and expertise preferred
  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO) required
  • Current registration with CAMRT preferred
  • At minimum, 4-6 years of practical and related experience required
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) program, level II: Basic Rescuer certification, required
