Position Summary:
Incumbent is responsible for the development, presentation, and analysis of graduate level courses in Fire Management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Directs the development of total course content to meet defined course objectives for courses in a broad specialty area, a subject-matter field, or a cluster of courses, through course steering committees and faculties.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of the application of a wide variety of education/training principles to complex training problems and deficiencies.
- Coordinates with other functional programs to provide the workforce necessary to accomplish a variety of national projects including fire management, aviation management, and resource related work.
- Coordinates national work groups on education matters that are controversial or novel, and often complicated by factors such as changing situations and educational developments.
- Strategizes and initiates effort to ensure program continuity through recruitment, employee development, and retention.
- Reviews and evaluates multiple courses and/or programs of instruction. Evaluates course assessment design procedures.
- Performs wildfire suppression support as directed within training and physical and other duties as assigned.
- Plans and conducts studies that evaluate and predict program achievements and student performance, and prepares interpretations of results and recommendations.
- Duties listed are at the full performance level GS-12.
- Leads meetings with personnel from other organizations and programs to develop or evaluate complex programs or specific highly technical training based on needs and available resources.
- Develops/implements new wildland fire training tools utilizing Virtual Reality (VR), 3D visualization, and similar technologies.
- Coordinates and evaluates 3D/VR training programs to achieve long term workforce development standards and goals.
- Prepares, executes, and monitors programs for small- and large- scale trials of courses. Plans, develops, and compiles manuals and teaching methods for training courses.
- Plans, develops, and implements training policy and procedures for developing and delivering fire training.
- Serves as a training consultant and prepares and makes formal presentations to fire and resource managers, administrators, training officers, and others regarding assigned projects, the interagency fire training program.
Required Education & Experience:
- Must be 18 years of age.

- This is a Test Designated Position. You will be tested for illegal drugs prior to appointment and randomly thereafter. Appointment and continued employment is conditional on negative results.
- Willing to live/work in remote locations (volatile/unpredictable).

- Applicants must display one year specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level. Examples of specialized experience include: Developed, planned and coordinated training and instructional curriculum; Developed training materials;
- Developed course objectives, including instructional and performance objectives, and prepared and developed course content and format.
- Successful completion of one year probationary period, unless previously served.
- Minimum of 90 days of wildland firefighting experience is required.
