Position Summary:

All U.S. Citizens – No previous Federal Service is required. CTAP and ICTAP candidates in the local commuting area.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Record survey data, to include corner evidence, survey measurement data, and original corner descriptions.
  • Operate survey equipment in order to perform cadastral surveys. Equipment includes theodolites, EDMI, electronic total stations and Global Positioning System receivers and processors.
  • Perform orienteering with magnetic hand compass and topographic maps.
  • Use GPS static relative positioning techniques, use GPS real-time kinematic (RTK) positioning techniques, collect GPS data, use GPS for staking out points, reduce GPS data resulting in valid coordinates.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Education: Have successfully completed a full four (4) year course of study leading to a bachelor’s degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of surveying, engineering, construction, or industrial technology, or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of the following courses: surveying, engineering, industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, forestry, geography, navigation, cartography, physical science, or mathematics.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • You must possess six (6) months of general experience and six (6) months of specialized experience. General experience must demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of a Surveying Technician. Specialized experience is technical work which provided the knowledge and skills needed for cadastral surveying equivalent to at least the GS-03 level in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience include work such as: work as an engineering technician, soil conservation technician, construction inspector, or work assisting professional land surveyors in the measurement or determination of distances, elevations, areas, angles, land boundaries, and/or other features of the Earth’s surface, and/or assisting land surveyors in setting monuments.
