Position Summary:
These positions serve as a Support Services Specialist on a Forest Service unit. Responsibilities include accomplishing a variety of support services such as procurement of administrative supplies and equipment, tracking budget expenses, assisting with personnel documents, printing and mail services, records and correspondence management.in Region 3.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform customer service functions to internal and external customers to support the unit.
- Manage Quarters data, perform inspections, and prepare rental agreements in Quarters Management Inventory System (iQMIS).
- Assist with coordination of clerical and administrative functions to ensure management priorities.
- Provide technical and administrative supervision to subordinate employees.
- Provide services to include budget, travel, procurement, property management, records management, Quarters/Housing Management, liaison, training, and clerical services to support unit (or management).

- Establish annual operating budget by collecting data to analyze the cost of project proposals, staffing levels and procurement of goods and services needed to support the unit’s objectives.
- Prepare forms and letters for review and signature by supervisor to support program management.
- Advise unit personnel on applicable laws, regulations, directives, and policies to accomplish administrative tasks relating to acquisitions, payroll, human resources, agreements, travel, facilities, safety, security, and other related issues.
- Perform regular budget updates, corrections and report discrepancies to a supervisor to maintain the unit budget.
- Process cash transactions, completes audits, and prepares various reports to ensure accurate status of funds.
- Check spelling, grammar and format style of drafted correspondence to ensure clarity and coherence of documents.
Required Education & Experience:
- One full year (18 semester/27 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level education if the coursework is directly related to the work of the position (for example Business or Public Administration, or other administrative or management fields related to the position being filled);
- You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as one or more of the following: Assembled monthly expenditures for operating budget reporting; Reviewed correspondence for grammatical accuracy; Purchased, received, and distributed supplies and special order items, including reconciled purchases in a database and monitored when additional supplies needed to be ordered.
