Position Summary:
The incumbent serves as the Director of Engineering responsible for providing technical advice and consultation to the Regional Leadership Team and staff and directing Region-wide engineering program activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategize accomplishing engineering program objectives to include planning and negotiating with government, tribal, and political officials.
- Coordinate with other resource areas on engineering policy and procedures with the aim of achieving a cohesive integrated program delivery.
- Manage engineering program activities and operations, instituting changes in existing practices to increase efficiencies.
- Advise upper management and/or staff on engineering program activities with the purpose of ensuring program objectives are met.
- Manage a budget for the engineering staff and recommend allocations of funds for engineering activities
- Develop long and short-range goals to ensure engineering program objectives are met.
- Communicate and participate in meetings where diverse philosophies, viewpoints, and organizational objectives are represented.
- Duties listed are at the full performance level:
- Manage a broad range of engineering program activities including forest roads and trails, bridges and structures, buildings and recreation sites, water/sanitation/waste, and fleet and heavy equipment.
- Conduct engineering program reviews to evaluate compliance with policies, standards, and overall effectiveness of engineering operations.
- Provide vigorous leadership in the development and furtherance of engineering programs.
Required Education & Experience:
- Successful completion of one year probationary period, unless previously served.

- Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 federal grade level. Specialized experience is defined as two or more of the following: Lead complex engineering projects and/or programs that include a variety of engineering problems, functions, and technical oversight; and/or managed engineering functions across multiple units, including programming, budgeting execution, and evaluation; and/or coordinated engineering programs with other resources and programs to deliver effective, integrated outcomes under constrained timeframes and with complex tradeoffs.
