Position Summary:
The position has responsibility for providing long-range planning, program direction, coordination, evaluation of program activities and staff supervision. The program includes professional assistance to all Federal, State, and private agencies within assigned zone.
Key Responsibilities:

- Coordinate between Field Office and various state, federal agencies, and private organizations regarding technical assistance, federally funded grants, and special project needs to meet program objectives.
- Assist in formulation of policies, programs, and standards for federally funded forest insect and disease prevention and/or restoration projects.
- Establish and communicate guidelines and performance requirements to staff including conducting formal performance reviews and identifying developmental and training needs of each staff member.
- Provide guidance in land management plans and vegetation management projects including inputs for environmental assessments.
- Develop annual and long-term pest management programs for a Field Office.
- Direct the development of work plans, Field Office program of work, staffing plans, budget and/or policies to accomplish program objectives.
- Plan the work to be accomplished by assigning work to staff and establishing production or quality standards for the Field Offices work.
- Document technical assistance in written guidelines which are incorporated into various resource project plans.
- Serve as an expert in forest health protection, including forest insect and pathogen detection, evaluation, prevention and control.
- Represent Agency Director as technical liaison with state and federal land managers as assigned.
- Develop insect and disease reports and publications in collaboration with Field Office staff and federal/state/private cooperators.
Required Education & Experience:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.

- Successful completion of one year probationary period, unless previously served.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
- Subject to one-year supervisory/managerial probationary period (unless prior service is creditable).
- Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
- Per Public Law 104-134 all Federal employees are required to have federal payments made by direct deposit to their financial institution.
- Degree: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor’s or higher degree that included a major field of study in entomology; or a related discipline of the biological or physical sciences that included at least 16 semester hours in entomology.
