Position Summary:

In this position, you will supervisory oversight for a staff that performs work involved in managing, and coordinating with other entities coordination of emergency response resources in dealing with intentional and/or unintentional crises, disasters, other humanitarian emergencies, hazards, or natural and man-made/technological incidents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparing guidance focusing on emergency response issues that comply with and follow Emergency Management related directives, regulations, policies, laws, standards and guidance to provide response capabilities that address all hazards.
  • Serving in a leadership role in an operations center, providing expert advice on a wide range of complex issues related to emergency management such as: the notification, communication, dissemination of information and the mobilization/direction of emergency response resources capabilities; AND
  • Performing as an emergency manager and participating regularly in efforts to exercise, validate, and execute Emergency Management capabilities.
  • Assessing, inspecting or evaluating emergency management response processes, plans, standard operating procedures, or guidance for compliance with established emergency management directives, regulations, policies, laws, standards and guidance.
  • Providing subordinates the requirements and descriptions of the work to be performed and tracking progress.
  • Providing direction and performing substantive work to build Emergency Management and support capabilities, as well as maintaining and ensuring the readiness of such capabilities based on analysis of risk and need.

Required Education & Experience:

  • You must successfully pass a background investigation.
  • Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and provides valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
  • Selective Service registration required.
  • You must be able to obtain and maintain a Government credit card.
  • You qualify for this position at the GS-15 level (starting salary $148,484) if you possess the following: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-14) in the Federal Service. This experience may have been gained in the federal government, a state or local government, a non-profit organization, the private sector, or as a volunteer
