Work required is in support of compliance activities and adherence with NERC, WECC and CAISO standards, through the supervision of the Substation Asset Strategy (SAS) team, to work closely with planners, operators, and project delivery teams ensuring effective creation, implementation, and maintenance of Substation Asset Strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Proactively engages with the Strategic Asset Failure Evaluation (SAFE) team to identify high risk areas to the system to inform the asset strategies as feedback to equipment ranking and potentially developing new programs, changing standards, design criteria, etc.
- Provides oversight and tracking for the department’s Corrective Action Program (CAP)
- Provides high level updates for Sr. Leadership on substation programs’ effectiveness and initiatives’ progress
- Lead the team in process improvements and collaboration with the Benchmarking team to keep abreast of industry best practices and benchmarks, equipment advisories, new technologies, etc.
- Provides oversight of the development of the T&D substation current year and 5- year plans, ensuring that the plans align with the assets’ strategies, management plans, and initiatives
- Collaborates with Substation Standards and Industry asset SME’s to provide critical feedback for the development of company substation standards and design criteria.
- Uses reliability engineering concepts and Asset Management principles to lead a team of six union represented engineers and two non-represented specialists responsible for the development of life cycle asset strategies, asset management plans and initiatives to support system health, innovation, and substation emergency readiness and response
- Manages workload within the group ensuring all employees are fully contributing to department goals
- Works closely with the Supervisor of the Asset Implementation team to align on the execution priorities of the work plan for the current year and 5-year plans
Required Education & Experience:
- 2 years of Supervision experience
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Understanding of substation configurations and reliable operations
- Professional Engineer license in the State of California.
- 10 years of engineering experience with 4 years in substation related experience
- Strong organizational skills
- Electrical Engineering Degree.
- Leadership skills: ability to develop and motivate teams
- Asset Management experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering Discipline or equivalent experience
