Position Summary:
This individual is expected to work both independently and with contractors for construction, operations, and maintenance of fiber-optic communications network. Individual will need to oversee contracted crews and other support personnel to achieve safe, reliable, and compliant construction, operations, and maintenance of fiber optic communication network. This network includes OSP and ISP field network electronics facilities within a designated geographic area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform any required field troubleshooting on telecom equipment, including fiber testing (OTDR), equipment configuration, fiber restoration efforts and isolation/correction of any telecom electronic issues/failures
- Work efficiently and effectively with cross-functional departments and peers
- Respond to all network outages, impairments, and emergencies in assigned area
- Oversee contractor and telecom electronic equipment installations and turn ups
- Safe work practices must be followed along with integrity and quality
- Promotes activities for protecting the safety of employees, equipment, and the general public
- Complete all required preventative maintenance inspections to FPL standards
- Schedules and initiates construction and maintenance activities for effective utilization of resources which meet customer requirements
- Overseas fiber cut restorations leading isolation of cut and directing contractor on needed work to be performed
- Participate in on-call rotation schedule for nights and weekend coverage
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
- Operate PC or similar devices to gain access to Network nodes and CPE devices and give remote access to NOC as well as assigned administrative tasks
- Familiar with different types of testing requirements for Ethernet services like RFC2544, RFC6349, Speed test or DIA test
- Familiar with different types of testing requirement for fiber optics like, OTDR, Fiber Characterization and Insertion Loss measurements
- Perform both hardware and software updates and/or changes to remote site equipment as necessary
- Oversee contractors for construction, operations, and maintenance of fiber-optic communications network
- Install, Turn-up, test, and provision Long Haul, CWDM, DWDM, and Ethernet equipment in an optical fiber network adhering to engineered design
- Perform advanced analysis and troubleshooting of issues while assisting the NOC and customers
- Work with fiber optic and Ethernet related test equipment including Network Tester, OTDR, Optical Power Meter, Optical Fiber Identifier, Optical Scope, Multimeter and DIA tester
Required Education & Experience:
- Valid Driver’s License (NON CDL)
- Associate’s Degree
- Experience: 5+ years
- Associate’s or Equivalent Experience
