Position Summary:
As a Senior Manager of Engineering, you’ll manage a team of Engineers and lead other Managers. You’ll raise up your team(s), helping develop individual careers and achieving goals, and coaching and developing new Managers. You’ll work closely with stakeholders from product and design, and other engineering leaders, to provide high-quality, repeatable technology delivery for the digital engineering organization. You’ll provide leadership across all aspects of development to maintain a high bar for technology, people, and process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Apply understanding of how your assigned functional area plays a part in the overall business; help grow
- Digital Engineering by driving execution of organization-wide activities
- Identify ways to improve codebases, solutions to complex problems; effectively propose paths forward to drive outcomes
- Manage multiple Managers, or split-tree manage a small team of ICs and a team Manager
- Facilitate goal-level creation for the broader function; work with managers to ensure goals are met; ensure clarity of priorities and goals for the entire functional area
- Recommend changes to processes and tools at the group / dept level based on industry standards, patterns, and practices
- Interact with Directors to ensure reporting and alignment
- Work across functions with peers in other groups to ensure collaboration on shared goals
- Lead large initiatives within the team, including technical design / delivery of complex features across multiple systems as H-E-B improves the customer and Partner user experiences
- Coach / mentor others in engineering techniques, processes, and new technologies; enable others to succeed; empower team members to be autonomous, fast, and effective
- Manage all HR responsibilities for your team, including pay planning, promotions, expenses, and leave
Required Education & Experience:
- You have experience mentoring, developing, and growing ICs and Engineering Managers
- You have a related degree or comparable formal training, certification, or work experience
- You have expert knowledge of system architecture and design patterns
- You have skills in multiple languages, technologies, and frameworks and can quickly on-board to projects in minimal time
- You have deep knowledge of multiple technologies, including technology used at H-E-B
- You have an expert understanding of development methodologies and processes
- You have 3+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager, or comparable experience
- You have a successful track record of timely delivery of high-quality software
- You approach problem-solving holistically and consider solutions through a combination of technology and processes
- You understand cross-tech stacks and scalability and reliability implications
