Position Summary:
This employee is part of the USDA Forest Service Rocky Mountain Research Station, Aldo Leopold Wilderness Research Institute in Missoula, MT.
The employee provides professional expertise and leadership for social science activities conducted in support of natural resource projects and programs
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilizes social science expertise to develop strategies and/or analysis techniques to address projects that align with mission priorities.
- Conduct social science research, applied methodology studies, and/or analysis.
- Provides briefings of social science activities, products, services, and initiatives to national, regional, and local partners.
- Plans and designs complex social analyses for assigned projects, including developing frameworks for collection and analysis, in support of Wilderness stewardship.
- Transfer information about complex scientific methods and data to a wide variety of individuals through various written venues.
- Serves as a member of interdisciplinary teams to provide social science expertise and analysis needs.
- Completes analysis processes and documentation in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies
- Manages large amounts of data in an organized and secure manner, which ensures long-term integrity of data and results based upon those data.
- Determines the methodological feasibility of analysis efforts, defines objectives, formulates questions, analyzes knowledge gaps, selects collection and analysis methods, and develops appropriate research instruments.
Required Education & Experience:
- Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
- Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.

- Degree: successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor’s or higher degree that included a major field of study in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
