Job Overview:
This role reports to the Section Manager, Fuel Handling Design. As a member of this technical team, the successful candidate will provide expertise, technical advice, and strategic advice to the Section Manager. The Senior Technical Specialist shall also support the Section, Department and Division with business initiatives, business metrics, corporate contracts and other administrative or technical support. The Senior Technical Specialist shall perform other duties as directed by the Section Manager.
What you’ll do:
- Develop/update technical specifications and standards for equipment, systems, and processes. Act as subject matter expert for assigned elements of programs.
- Recommend technical programs, reflecting internal and external operating experience and industry technology trends to maintain and improve the long-term performance of major processes, equipment, and systems in the stations.
- With appropriate direction from Manager or Technical Advisor develop approved technical programs which improve the performance of major processes, equipment and systems, e.g. standards, methods, procedures. As assigned, provide direction, and oversee specific phases of project design or technical elements of projects.
- Provide advice to station engineering staff to allow them to troubleshoot problems and better understand, sustain, and improve performance of equipment, systems & processes.
- Represent Bruce Power as a part of external committees (COG, CNS, IAEA, ect.)
- Provide vendor oversight and contract management of several programs to ensure success
- Assist station staff by contributing to the resolution of technical design problems and suggested implementation of approved solutions. Aid engineering staff towards accepting optimum approaches.
- Provide backup for the Section Manager, as delegated.
- Assist in the development of staff technical expertise.
- Maintain expert knowledge of internal and external issues and solutions. Actively work towards improving and advancing engineering design methodologies and technology. Attend and represent the Department on various technical committees as needed.
- As assigned, provide technical verification of work carried out in the Department and related to the specialty areas, to supplement normal peer verification.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Analyze non-standard station technical problems, or problems requiring a level of expertise which stations do not possess. Provide advice and evaluate solutions.

- A period of over 6 years and up to and including 8 years of relevant experience is considered necessary.
- Extensive experience performing the role of Owner’s Engineer (OE) and managing project related work.
- Demonstrated ability to achieve task results consistent with requirements for safety, quality, quantity, and resource allowance.
- Transferable skills (for example, communication skills, initiative, self-motivation, and flexibility).
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, and be self-motivated.
- Experience with BRIMS network interface with fuel handling control is an asset.
- Strong leadership skills and high degree of accountability and engagement.
- Familiarity with the application of V-Model approach to system development and testing

- A high degree of initiative, self-motivation, flexibility, and the ability to work with minimal guidance in a team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities, deadlines, and heavy workloads.
- A history of demonstrating strong analytical, problem solving, and decision-making capability.
- P.Eng designation or ability to obtain P.Eng designation is an asset.
- Good comprehension, written and verbal and presentation skills.
- Experience with development of category III & II software using OSAES or equivalent standards.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize and organize work to meet objectives.
- A four year degree from a recognized university or equivalent in an engineering discipline is required.
- Experience in leading the resolution of complex issues related to outages is required.
