Position Summary:
We are seeking a cloud automation engineer to work in a fast-paced and dynamic cloud engineering team. The successful candidate will facilitate PG&E’s business vision by improving infrastructure and platforms that all PG&E employees use to design, collaborate and build great customer experiences; accelerate the transformation of cloud services to public and private cloud-based platforms and services; provide cloud platform assistance for those involved in the design, development, testing, implementation, maintenance, support, and operations of PG&E’s systems infrastructure. A critical part of how we operate is to apply design thinking, innovate, and work collaboratively using agile development practices. Through these principles, we work as product teams to help deliver valuable cloud products to our business partners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identifies, analyzes and improves existing business processes within a department to meet new goals and objectives
- Works on moderately complex problems that require in depth analysis and judgment to obtain results or solutions
- Develops automation for common server provisioning tasks (e.g. install, configuration, upgrade, patching, backups, monitoring and validation of build)
- Deploys new automation and enhancements to existing workflows for process improvement
- Analyzes existing applications and systems and formulates logic for new systems, devises logic procedures, logical database design, performs coding and tests/debugs programs
- Defines and documents business requirements for complex system development or testing
- Ensures work is carried out using established processes, practices and procedures as directed
- Requires little to no mentoring to run with tasks
- Communicates (oral and written) recommendations and findings internally and externally
- Collaborates with other subject matter experts, automation engineers and interfacing teams
- Partners with various departments to understand and incorporate standards information and requirements into work procedures
Required Education & Experience:
- 3 years in Cloud technologies
- Experience with Terraform
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Sciences, Management Information Systems or related discipline
- Good workload and time management skills
- Experience with web development (ASP.net)
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum
- Experience with Ansible
- Understanding and experience working with Containers and Modern Cloud Technologies
- Ability to adhere to company policies and compliance standards
- Experience with Oracle, SQL, and/or PostgreSQL
- Experience with VMWare vSphere
- Experience with provisioning and scripting (python, shell, PowerShell)
- Experience with VMs and physical servers
- Experience in VMware vRealize Automation (VRA version 8.x)
- Experience with Windows and Linux (RHEL)
- Minimum 3 years’ relevant experience as an Automation Engineer
