Position Summary:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performs selected on-the-job assignments.
  • The incumbent serves in a developmental capacity as a trainee at the GS-05 level.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Provides technical support for all safety and health inspection activities to include citation processing, case file maintenance, inspection data entry, abatement, post- citation processes, and final case file disposition.
  • Under the oversight of technical staff and the Area Director, assists in office and occasionally in field aspects of compliance assistance activities including outreach activities, training, and other field activities.
  • Receives instructions on agency and program goals, objectives, regulations and procedures, occupational hazards, safety standards, inspection techniques, and work processes of a federally conducted occupational safety and health program.
  • Duties are similar to those at the GS-06, but with more supervision.
  • Attends formal courses.
  • Attends and observes opening sessions and closing sessions where violations of appropriate standards and subsequent corrective requirements are discussed with management representatives;
  • Interprets reporting instructions, develops reporting formats, collects historical and current data, and reviews information to ensure conformance with reporting instructions.
  • Receives and responds to inquiries related to the OSHA Information System (OIS), requiring knowledge of the OSHA Information System (OIS) with concentration on inquiries concerning inspection, UPA and compliance assistance data entry, report generation, user maintenance, and systems administration functions.
  • Assists in the development and review of compliance and inspection related statistical data and narrative information for inclusion in program management plans, briefing materials, reports, memoranda, fact sheets, local emphasis programs, partnerships, alliances, Voluntary Protection Program reports, and other documentation.
  • Receives classroom and on-the job instruction and completes written assignments;
  • Participates as member of an inspection team led by higher graded specialist with exposure to techniques used to identify hazards;

Required Education & Experience:

  • Must be at least 16 years old and a U.S. Citizen.
  • Appointment to this position may require a background investigation.
  • Requires a valid drivers license.
  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor’s degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in any combination of subjects such as safety, fire prevention, industrial hygiene, or other directly related subjects.
  • Requires medical exam and must maintain physical requirements.
  • Requires a probationary period if the requirement has not been met.
