Position Summary:
The Rotating Equipment Engineer provides engineering support for the safe, reliable operation and maintenance of rotating, reciprocating machinery and machinery systems in the Refinery. Support includes all phases of machinery engineering (concept development, scoping, equipment application, specification, selection, bid analysis, project development, shop testing, field start up, troubleshooting, and failure analysis). The Rotating Equipment Engineer plays a critical role in technical guidance and project management of long term rotating equipment reliability upgrades. The Rotating Equipment Engineer also plays a critical role in the escalation of troubleshooting and failure analysis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support company-wide initiatives to implement lessons learned across industry, including networking with other refining sites and company Subject Matter Experts (SME).
- Provide backup support and technical guidance for area rotating equipment reliability analysts
- Provide oversight in the development of reliability upgrades for machinery, including centrifugal pumps, steam turbines, fin-fans, reciprocating and centrifugal compressors, and blowers.
- Prepare, review, and approve machinery or component purchase specifications. This may include preparation of engineering, operating, maintenance or reliability standards, policies, and instructions within the refinery or by working with peers and management for systemic and industry standards.
- Utilize key reliability metrics to justify and prioritize machinery reliability improvements
- Facilitate root cause investigations centered around machinery and onsite/offsite repair quality. This includes implementing a means to track key metrics including rework and non-conformance, to assist investigations.
- Track performance of major machinery and provide troubleshooting support for performance or mechanical issues
- Provide support to major projects teams as the owner/user and rotating technical resource
Required Education & Experience:
- Working knowledge of industry specific (API) design and repair standards
- A minimum 5-years machinery engineering experience in the chemical, petrochemical, refining, or energy industry
- Proficient in use of Microsoft suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, OneDrive, SharePoint, Power BI)
- Able to perform field work including climbing of stairs and ladders
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field
- Possess valid driver’s license.
