Position Summary:
Instacart’s Policy & Government Affairs (PGA) department advocates for public policy outcomes that support the long-term growth of our business. We build trust with government policymakers, helping them understand our business and its positive impact on their communities. We help to shape complex, innovative public policy debates that will define the future of work and e-commerce. We engage a diverse coalition of partners and communities to build effective advocacy campaigns that advance our public policy goals. We help the company see around corners to anticipate and adjust to constantly evolving political and regulatory landscapes.
This position is part of the Policy Research and Development pillar of the PGA department. The Public Policy Manager will read, analyze, summarize and advise colleagues on legislation, regulations and other policy documents, particularly on key technology and privacy issues. This position will be located in Washington, DC or San Francisco, CA and reports to the Director of Policy Research & Development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work cross-functionally with other members of the Policy and Government Affairs team, as well as the legal team.
- Strategize with colleagues on legislation, regulations and other policy documents.
- Analyze, summarize and provide policy guidance on legislation and regulations on various issues to the Policy Research and Development team and the Federal and U.S. and Canada Government
- Affairs teams, with a focus on technology policy, privacy and data, competition, and consumer protection.
- Engage with external consultants in collaboration with the government affairs teams.
Required Education & Experience:
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Excellent analytical, interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Ability to learn new concepts and policy issues quickly and to balance multiple projects with tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to read, analyze and summarize legislation, regulations and other public policy documents.
- Great teammate with the ability to exercise good judgment in a rapidly changing and sometimes stressful environment.
- Expertise and experience in one or more of the following policy areas is preferred: antitrust, consumer protection or data privacy and security.
- Experience working in Congress or a state legislature preferred.
- JD preferred.
