Position Summary:
The incumbent serves as a project manager overseeing large scale or high priority projects and strategic planning efforts that impact National Forests as well as its associated partners, communities, other government and non-government organizations, and other stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze emerging and critical sustainability issues and develop strategies and recommendations that address issues which comply with established policies and guidelines.
- Monitor program accomplishment, resolve issues, and coordinate programs and projects with applicable staffs.
- Plan work to be accomplished, set and adjust short-term priority and prepare schedule for completion of work.
- Provide leadership for the accomplishment of work with regard for sound management practices, economical and proper use of supplies/equipment and efficient use of people and safety practices.
- Give advice, counsel or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters.
- Actively seek and build partnerships to promote effective program opportunities to resolved mutual problems and implement integrated strategic approaches for problem resolution.
- Provide technical and administrative supervision to subordinate employees.
- Assist in coordinating program activities with other staff areas, organizations, and federal and state agencies or equivalent.

- Identify and acquire resources to accomplish the mission of the organization.
- Formulate, plan, and manage major aspects of the program’s partnership development and staff operations.
- Develop and recommend policies, programs, plans, and objectives based on needs and/or directives from higher authority.
- Represent the agency in assigned areas, participating with top management officials to furnish specialized information for policy setting and overall planning.
- Utilize external relationships with a variety of individuals and organizations to integrate and apply these relationships and competing values effectively to accomplish the mission of the organization.
- Promote and support a positive work environment to create a climate of mutual respect and integrity.
- Coordinate and integrate complex professional, scientific, technical, managerial, and /or administrative work to ensure services meet customer and unit needs.
Required Education & Experience:
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
- Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
- You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as some of the following: worked in a senior specialist capacity that requires knowledge and skill in complex program and/or project management, including analysis, data management, planning, and evaluative assignments concerned with the administrative and operational aspects of organizations, programs, services and management; developed and presented recommendations and supporting data/information to senior leadership related to program/project direction and administration; analyzed, planned and evaluated administrative and operational activities of the organizations, programs, services and management; developed strategic plans to implement a long-range forest management program of work; and/or collaborated with partners such as federal agencies, congressional representatives/staff, local, county, and State officials, civic groups, and/or members of the general public to develop projects/programs and carry out the mission of the organization.
- Successful completion of one year probationary period, unless previously served.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
