Position Summary:

This position is located in the Southern Regional Office Engineering Unit serving as the advisor of strategic planning and change management to the regional director for multiple organizational levels in the region.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes emerging and critical sustainability issues. Identifies problem, defines the nature and scope of the problem, develops study approaches, assumptions to be used, and objectives sought.
  • Formulates, plans, and manages major aspects of the program’s partnership development and staff operations.
  • Coordinates and integrates complex professional, scientific, technical, managerial, and/or administrative work to ensure services meet customer and unit needs.
  • Ensures open communication in an effort to enable solutions and complementary results in support of the agency mission.
  • Develops strategies and recommendations that address issues which comply with established policies and guidelines.
  • The position serves as liaison, maintaining productive working relationships between interagency teams and Forest Service counterparts to resolve mutual problems and implement integrated strategic approaches for problem resolution.
  • Actively seeks and builds public and private sector partnerships to promote effective program opportunities.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12. Qualifying specialized experience is defined as one or more of the following: Worked in a specialist capacity that requires knowledge and skill in complex program and/or project management, including analysis, data management, planning, and evaluative assignments concerned with the administrative and operational aspects of organizations, programs, services and management; Developed and presented recommendations and supporting data/information to senior leadership related to program/project direction and administration; Collaborated with partners such as federal agencies, congressional representatives/staff, local, county, and State officials, civic groups, and/or members of the general public to develop projects/programs and carry out the mission of the organization.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
  • Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
  • Successful completion of one year probationary period, unless previously served.
  • Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
