Position Summary:

Delta Flight Products (DFP) is seeking a proactive, engaged talent to join the Hardware and Sustaining Engineering team as a Component Engineer II, IFE within the In-flight Entertainment Engineering department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with engineering leadership, PMO and marketing, and supporting 3rd party suppliers with addressing technical issues and supporting schedule and program demands.
  • Collaborate with build-to-print suppliers of DFP designs, to review and finalize component selection that meet and/or exceed operational, reliability, availability, cost, and testability requirements.
  • Author engineering data which will be checked by peer groups or other project participants.
  • Practice safety-conscious behaviors in all operational processes and procedures.
  • Oversee component selection and obsolescence management of products designed and produced by third party partners or subcontract labor.
  • Provide technical support during manufacturing of IFE equipment as required.
  • Support IFE engineers by performing component search, based on design criteria, and make recommendations as to which components should be considered.
  • Work with product line management, program management, IFE engineering, manufacturing engineering, quality, and supply chain to address design to cost, design for manufacturability, design to test, and reliability metrics of new developments. Establish plans to address gaps to requirements.
  • Check engineering data which is authored by other engineers or project participants.
  • Utilize published component failure rates to calculate predicted Meat Time Between Failures (MTBF) for IFE equipment.
  • Review and interpret pertinent component data sheets and evaluate all components for various product applications.
  • Periodically review and assess component obsolescence risks, analyze, and develop recommendations to resolve all issues of potentially obsolete and obsolete components.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Degree from an accredited university, and 3 years of related experience in product and/or system development for aviation environment, or 8 years of related experience in product and/or system development for aviation environment.
  • Working knowledge of MIL-HBK-217 reliability predictions, and related tools, is a plus.
  • Knowledge of component selection processes, technical design, substantiation techniques and certification requirements.
  • Embraces diverse people, thinking and styles. Consistently makes safety and security, of self and others, the priority.
  • Familiarity with GIDEP or ERAI a plus.
  • Ability to analyze incomplete information and implement timely decision making while mitigating risk factors.
  • Experience with REACH/ROHS a plus.
  • Experience with Inflight Entertainment System design, component selection, qualification, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, substantiation, support of aviation products.
