Position Summary:

Technical Operations is the maintenance, repair and overhaul division of United. The department includes aircraft maintenance technicians, engineers, planners, ground equipment and facilities teams, supply chain teams and more.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Plumber you will work in a fast-paced San Francisco Maintenance Operations Center, the Plumber plays a very important role in providing quality service to our internal customers. Under the direction of the Facility Maintenance Supervisor, or the Lead Plumber, the Plumber will be responsible for repair and maintenance of all plumbing and steam systems within the maintenance base and its related buildings, including:

  • Plumbers must be able to work around the clock shifts, including weekends and holidays, in the outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Plumbers are represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT)
  • New employees are required to join the union within ninety (90) days of employment
  • Schedules are bid and awarded according to seniority
  • Ability to be able to perform general plumbing maintenance and installation
  • Salary increases will be administered according to the current IBT/United contract
  • There is an initiation fee for joining the union and subsequent monthly union dues
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve plumbing problems, snake and unclog lines and commodes, install new plumbing fixtures, work on hot water circulating pumps as well as perform preventative maintenance as needed

Required Education & Experience:

  • Valid US driver’s license (revoked, suspended, or expired are not considered valid)
  • Twelve months’ experience required as a Plumber operator
  • Backflow certification or equivalent city/state license
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Customer-focused
  • Must pass a 10-year background check
  • Must be willing to take a pre-placement physical abilities test, hearing and vision tests, and drug screen
  • Overtime available/required depending upon operational need
  • Must be able to work any shift
  • Must be familiar with, and understand the Universal Plumbing Code (UPC)
  • Must have a high school diploma/GED or education equivalent
  • Candidate must be able to clear a fingerprint-based criminal history check in order to obtain and retain credentials necessary for the position
  • Background in building maintenance
  • Position-specific clearances may include but are not limited to FAA, TSA, Port Authority, U.S. Customs and U.S.
  • Postal service clearances required
