Position Summary:
As an Orthopaedic Technician (Ortho Tech), you will apply, adjust, and remove casts, splints and traction equipment utilized in the care of orthopaedic patients (clients, residents). You will observe, monitor, report and document changes in the patient’s physical, mental and emotional state, while providing safe and effective, quality care. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Required Education & Experience:
- Demonstrated excellent assessment, organizational and patient care skills required.
- Ability to communicate findings in a concise and accurate manner.
- Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills.
- Minimum 1 year emergency nursing experience required.
- Preference will be given to applicants with recent nursing experience in a tertiary care facility Emergency Department.
- Preference will also be given to those candidates who possess recent acute/critical care experience in the last two years.
- Graduation from a recognized Orthopedic Technician Course.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS – Heart and Stroke AED Level C REQUIRED) – Healthcare Provider Registration.
- 2 years applicable med/surg experience may be considered.
- In this position, you will be on your feet for an extended period of time (both walking and standing), and you must be able to assist in transporting, lifting and positioning of patients.
- You will also be required to bend, lift, push, and pull equipment.
- Must be able to identify own learning needs and seek guidance in professional practice where knowledge deficits occur.
- Responsible to provide proof of active registration with the CLPNA and to maintain registration throughout the duration of employment.
- Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program.
- Active or eligible for registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).
- Completion of an accredited specialty Orthopaedic Technician program.
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
