Position Summary:

This position is part of the Short-Range Oils Planning Team in El Segundo and is responsible for leading a variety of projects, studies, and initiatives that drive refinery gross margin and profitability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Applies statistical methods and data analytics to develop tools that enable more effective and streamlined decision-making.
  • Leverages understanding of yields and fundamental understanding of refinery chemistry / separations to deliver unique insights on capabilities and options for refinery performance improvement by participating in refinery-wide optimization efforts.
  • Develop innovative technology solutions and work process improvements for the LP model, Oils Planning and Scheduling work processes.
  • Leads the development and execution of high value business opportunities by leveraging detailed understanding of refinery configuration capabilities and value chain integration drivers. Perform complex economic evaluations to support capital project selection.
  • Utilizes operating experience, business and technical knowledge in providing guidance for the preparation refinery short cycle business development projects (1-3 year plan & execute).
  • Ensures linkage to the refinery’s and company’s business plans, metrics, and scorecards. Develops projects that maximize enterprise margins across several organizations (Value Chain Optimization, Manufacturing, and Supply and Trading).
  • Serves as external and internal resource for LP planner organization capability development by conducting and participating in formalized LP and technical training sessions. May also serve as a mentor to new Oils Planning team members.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Strong understanding of process optimization concepts (distillation cutpoints, yield, reactor catalyst life, etc.).
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering or 3 + years of related work experience.
  • Experience with data visualization tools, e.g. PowerBI, SEEQ, etc.
  • Experience with running Linear Program (LP) optimization programs to identify economic opportunities; Petro platform strongly preferred.
  • Experience with refinery scheduling and blending tools, e.g. APS, MBO.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience with refinery or petrochemical process optimization and operation.
  • Experience working in a refinery oils planning or supply chain organization.
