Position Summary:

Plan and manage the Dr. Clotilde P. Garcia Public Library while operating as a joint facility with the Kaffie Middle School Library.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct inventories of library materials, analyze usage and maintain appropriate records in support of maintenance procedures.
  • Provide problem-solving and administrative guidance to ensure effective and efficient operations.
  • Plan, manage and coordinate all aspects of community outreach.
  • Assist patrons with computer use, basic reference, and e-technology issues.
  • Maintain library’s staff and public computers by making sure hardware and software is up to date and functioning as expected.
  • Instruct and assist the public in the use of library resources including the online catalog, online databases, public access computers and equipment.
  • Assist with overseeing the acquisition, processing and distribution of library materials.
  • Participate on assigned committees.
  • Defines scope of responsibilities to library users, staff and other library facilities.
  • May be asked to perform other duties as assigned
  • Supervise hiring, training and evaluation of staff.
  • Understand and adhere to library polices for emergency and disaster preparedness and subsequent recovery of library services.
  • May be asked to maintain or assist with network, making sure data communication between the main library and branches is active and working properly.
  • Stay up to date on societal trends and influences related to subject areas, as well as publishing format trends.
  • Manage all aspects of collection department, for both reference and circulating collections.
  • Oversee maintenance, security and physical attractiveness of facility grounds and equipment.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of the library’s annual Business Plan.
  • Responsible for collection and distribution of library statistics.
  • Assist with overseeing technical service functions, processing of materials ordered and received.
  • Plan, organize and schedule daily library operations.
  • Select, organize and interpret information from an extensive variety of materials, including technical, literary and documentary statistical sources.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Requires a Bachelor’s Degree
  • A valid driver’s license is required. Successful out of state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver’s license within 90 days of hire
  • Master’s degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science required within one (1) year of hire as a condition of employment
  • Minimum of three (3) years of directly related experience
  • Master’s degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science preferred
  • A+ and Network+ certifications preferred but not required
