Position Summary:
This position is located on a Forest Service unit and serves as a journey level maintenance mechanic. The duties of the position involve carpentry, electrical, plumbing and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC).
Key Responsibilities:
- Selecting appropriate tools and equipment to use in order to accomplish tasks.
- Carpentry duties include planning and completing projects from initial layout to final installation such as, remodeling building interiors and exteriors, installing campground tables, barriers, bridges, doors, staircases, etc.
- Electrician duties include troubleshooting all electrical problems that occur such as, removing and replacing electrical fixtures and contrules, rearranging old or installing new outlets, relays, switches, and light fixtures.
- Plumbing duties include, repairing waterlines, installing toilets and lavatory fixtures, re-plums lines as needed.
- Serves as a journeyman level maintenance mechanic with duties involving carpentry, electrical, plumbing and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC).
- Determines the extent of repairs needed and exercises judgment in selecting the methods, techniques, and procedures to use in completing assignments in accordance with accepted trade standards.
- HVAC duties include repairing or replacing evaporative coolers, repairs to refrigerated cooling and heating units, and installing thermostats, water and gas systems, fire sprinkler equipment, and water closets.
- Utilizes knowledge of shop mathematics to plan, compute, and layout projects.
- Interprets complex instructions, sketches, blueprints, and building codes. Works from work orders, oral instructions, and wiring diagrams that indicate the nature of the repair or installation to be made.
Required Education & Experience:
- Use of Measuring Instruments
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt.
- Knowledge of Materials
- Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
- Knowledge of Equipment, Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.

- Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.
