Position Summary:

As a Lead Accounting Technician, this position provides accounting support for the more complex accounts which may involve a large number of organizations and programs, and/or which require analyses and accounting determinations within a complete accounting system.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Keeping required work records and production reports, instructing employees in specific tasks, and providing on-the-job training when needed;
  • Preparing statements, reports, schedules, and comparative analyses for accounts with extensive supporting schedules, subdivisions, intermediate summaries, and frequent and varied adjustments to balance and reconcile them.
  • Distributing and balancing the workload and maintaining awareness of work status, progress, and priorities;
  • Analyzing and preparing recurring and special reports on the causes of adjustment actions, determining the source of processing deficiencies, and recommending corrective procedures.
  • Reviewing and analyzing reports/listings, classifies errors, takes corrective action, and verifies corrected copy.
  • Accounting information system programs generate a very wide variety of diverse accounts many of which require control accounts, subdivided accounts, and extensive supporting schedules and analyses.
  • Providing input to the supervisor on employee performance, training needs, and disciplinary problems.
  • Keeping required work records and runs productions reports and provides input to supervisor on employee performance and training needs, or disciplinary problems.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
  • Knowledge of the automated accounting system(s), the account code structure(s), and procedures to be able to recommend procedural changes
  • Knowledge of accounting and techniques and procedures to make difficult and responsible analyses and accounting determinations within a complete accounting system or a major segment of an accounting system.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • The position requires a valid state driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of client organizations’ accounting structure and automated system(s).
  • Applicants must have completed at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
