Position Summary:
The Public Health Inspector II will protect the public’s health through education and enforcement of all regulations pertinent to environmental health.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and inspect OSSF Systems in the city, county to insure TCEQ rules and guides are followed.
- Conduct food service inspections by visiting food establishments, mobile units, temporary concession stands, shrimp boats, and flea market vendors to ensure City Ordinance compliance related to sanitation and controlling food borne illnesses.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge and skills by keeping required licenses/certifications current.
- May be asked to perform other duties as assigned.
- Inspect and permit day care centers by inspecting grounds, kitchen, food storage areas, garbage containers, electrical outlets, and ensure toxic products are properly stored.
- Educate food handlers by teaching Food Handler’s Class and explain methods to control food illnesses and bacterial growth.
- Inspect foster homes for foster home/adoption purposes for the State of Texas to include cleanliness, adequate storage space, bedding, and ensure a comfortable environment overall.
- Conduct pool inspections by checking pools for water quality, pool structure, safety requirements, enclosures, disinfection, residue and pH balance.
Required Education & Experience:
- Food Handlers Card required within six (6) months of hire
- A combination of education and pertinent experience may be considered
- Minimum of two (2) years of related experience
- Must be able to take and pass ICS 100 and 200 Certifications within one (1) year of hire.
- Must become a TCEQ Designated Representative within one (1) year of hire
- Requires an Associate’s Degree
- A valid driver’s license is required. Successful out of state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver’s license within 90 days of hire
- Food Manger Permit and Swimming Pool Certification required within one (1) year of hire
