Position Summary:

The Head of Security Profession will be tasked with supporting the development and application of Security Skills by supporting the professional development of everyone working in security roles in the MoJ from security apprentices to established security team colleagues. The aim is to support colleagues in security roles across the department to fulfil their career aspirations and potential while contributing to the mission of the MoJ.
You will be helping line managers and team leads with security responsibilities build and develop expert teams, both through support to recruitment activities, continuous learning and development, and through expanding our talent pipeline with support to schemes such as cyber apprenticeships and the cyber fast stream.
You will be the line manager (or scheme equivalent) for development roles – such as cyber apprentices, fast streamers, summer students etc, – arranging suitable placements for them across the entire department.
In this role will be responsible for the security profession across the department – supporting roles within the local team, but also in other security teams in Digital and Technology, HMCTS, and Arms Length Bodies. Your work will help to build a strong, expert, professional and pragmatic security culture for the profession .

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the level of competency, quality and training of the various professions
  • Enable a Learning Culture within the security teams
  • Create and deliver a L&D strategy to develop high performing cyber security teams and work with line managers and job holders to deliver suitable learning pathways and development programmes. Ensure that these link effectively to cross-government skills and capability strategies.
  • Add value by using L&D to meet short- and long-term business needs.
  • Support fast streamers and cyber first students during their placements at the MoJ
  • Ensure all programmes and plans are measurable and deliver value for money, for example by assessing and evaluating alignment with cyber security good practices.
  • Engage with cross government programmes such as the Apprenticeship and Fast Stream schemes to ensure the right placements are set up for the team.
  • Provide advice and support to senior stakeholders in areas of employee development
  • Build awareness of the training that the profession offers and track individual and collective progress
  • Build links across government to ensure that the MoJ Profession is strongly linked to cross government networks and is taking full advantage of the schemes available
  • Enhance security leadership at every level through development and delivery of high-quality capability programmes and provision of advice and support to programmes, projects, services and people managers.
  • Support business and cultural change
  • Guide the apprenticeship candidates on their apprenticeship journey
  • Ensure skilled colleagues receive the specialist training required to support their development
  • Assess current and future requirements and gaps in capability, and commission L&D interventions to meet them in line with the organisation’s strategic direction.
  • Provide support to members of the security profession working across the MoJ. Create forums for collaboration between members of the profession.
  • Contribute to building the profile of security within the MOJ and wider
  • Support the development of new talent, by coordinating development posts (apprentices, fast streamers, placements, CyberFirst etc) – being responsible for the individuals and placing them into suitable placements across the department.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Experience in coaching and mentoring staff
  • An interest in security topics
  • Experience in personal capability establishment and delivery.
  • An understanding of how to grow skills and capabilities in a complex organisation
  • Experience developing training programmes
  • Good communication skills and an ability to build links with disparate areas of an organisation
  • Experience in Cyber Security knowledge development and delivery.
