Position Summary:
The Diversified Credit business is responsible for the Old Mutual Shareholder and Liability Driven Investments diversified credit mandates.
An opportunity has arisen to head up this business unit within Old Mutual Alternative Investments (“OMAI”).
This position operates at executive level and is responsible to lead the Diversified Credit business in the development and execution of the strategy and overall business performance with a focus on deal origination, management and monitoring of investments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assume ultimate accountability for delivery of the debt origination strategy including active rainmaking to establish new client relationships and identify funding opportunities
- Identify, develop and retain talent
- Represent OMAI in a professional manner that bolsters the business’ reputation with key external and internal stakeholders
- Assume overall accountability for the investment process and performance of originated assets
- Drive execution of the overall strategy of the business in alignment with the broader Old Mutual Shareholder strategy for diversified credit
- Develop and drive a high-performance culture
- Deliver on mandate requirements including assets specifics e.g. return on capital, term, profile, risk etc
- Develop and implement a strategy to grow the business
- Implement and maintain appropriate risk management and governance frameworks
- Overall management of financial performance, ensuring that profit and deal flow targets are achieved against business plan
- Lead, direct, coordinate and motivate the diversified credit team comprising debt originators and credit analysts
- Identify new trends in the market and find niche funding opportunities to enhance returns
- Build the brand via thought leadership, participation in relevant industry forums and media contributions and engagements
Required Education & Experience:
- Ability to lead a team and influence decision making at all levels
- Good commercial and negotiation skills
- Strong stakeholder management and relationship building ability
- Excellent communication (written & oral)
- Experience in managing a team of investment professionals and proven leadership track record with a minimum of 5 years at senior leadership level
- Articulate and confident with a strong commercial focus
- Established relationships with Investment Banks
- Ability to conceptualise, design and implement strategy
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage complex issues simultaneously in a pressurised environment
- Strong leadership and people management skills, high EQ
- Excellent technical and analytical skills
- Structured and organised with attention to detail
- Sound working knowledge of local regulatory environment
- Relevant financial qualification – CA, CFA or equivalent
- 15+ years of experience, inclusive of extensive credit and transactional experience in an Investment Banking environment, with in-depth exposure to diversified credit
