Position Summary:
As a Ground Service Equipment (GSE) Utility Specialist, you will work in a fast-paced GSE Maintenance Operations department. The GSE Utility Specialist plays a very important role in providing quality service to our internal customers and performs work in accordance with guidelines established in the collective bargaining agreement.
Key Responsibilities:
- GSE Utility Specialists must be able to work around the clock shifts including weekends and holidays, in the outdoors in all weather conditions
- Perform minor repairs on food service equipment.
- Salary increases will be administered according to the current IBT/United Contract
- Limited cart and dolly work, excluding welding and major structural repairs.
- Other tasks as assigned and outlined in the CBA
- Schedules are bid and awarded according to seniority
- New employees are required to join the union
- Perform minor repairs on food service equipment
- Surface treatment on engines, aircraft, and component parts with chemicals and sandblasting equipment.
- Routine fluid and vehicle operational inspections.
- Light maintenance tasks such as replacing head light/tail lights, wiper blades, oil changes, excluding trouble-shooting.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks of general nature, such as servicing and transporting equipment.
- Automotive and light truck tire build up and servicing.
- Assist Technicians with work as requested
- Identifying and checking tools, test equipment and certain commodities in and out of the warehouse, as well as the servicing, receiving, cleaning, transportation, inventory storage and accounting of tools, test equipment, parts and commodities used in the daily operation.
- GSE Utility Specialists are represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT)
Required Education & Experience:
- Working knowledge of tools associated with aircraft and automotive repair or ability to work with cleaning solutions and chemicals
- Must be able to work in confined spaces
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent
- Must be available to work any shift that is assigned to you within a 24 hour/day, 7 day/week operation which can include late nights, early hours weekends and holidays
- Good verbal, written, communication and computer skills
- Customer focused
- Employees may bid for schedules several times a year and schedules are awarded according to seniority
- Strong social skills and the ability to function as a team member in a demanding service environment
- Mechanical competence
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Mobility requirements include lifting, carrying, crawling, and ladder climbing
- Valid state driver’s license and acceptable driving record (suspended, expired, revoked or denied are not considered valid)
