Position Summary:

This position serves as a forest products program manager with responsibility for developing, providing guidance for, coordinating, monitoring and directing the forest products program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspects for compliance with established policies, standards, program objectives, and emphasis.
  • Develops technical guides and standards for timber marking and sale preparation, contract selection and preparation, and harvesting techniques to meet integrated program objectives.
  • Prepares long-range functional plans including formulation of policies, objectives, and priorities and the correlation and integration of natural resource plans into the overall land management planning.
  • Leads the development of short and long term action plans associated with an integrated vegetation management program and associated budgets.
  • Maintains liaison with Regional Office Directors and Assistant Directors, local operators, collaborative groups, and industry representatives.
  • Oversees and conducts team-based technical field reviews of project implementation of timber sales and integrated resources contracts to assess consistency with Forest Service direction and develops recommendations.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

  • You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11. Qualifying specialized experience is defined as meeting two or more of the following: Providing leadership in forest resource development and service activities and maintaining quality control for a forest products program; providing technical input on the preparation and administration of timber sale contracts and technical support for stewardship projects; coordinating the forest products management program preparatory work for program and budget planning; and preparing response to directives relating to timber management issues or issues associated with soils, recreation values, and wildlife habitat, among others as they relate to timber management.
  • Successful completion of one year probationary period, unless previously served.
