Position Summary:

In this position, you will serve as a Firefighter (Paramedic/Hazmat Tech) to provide a full range of fire protection and prevention support activities to the MWEOC Facility

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operating and maintaining firefighting trucks and equipment.
  • Successfully complete an annual Job Performance Test.
  • Work rotating shifts including weekends, holidays and overtime when necessary or directed.
  • Maintain current EMS certification that was held upon hiring such as EMT-B or EMT-P. The position can obtain a higher level of certification, (e.g., moving from an EMT-B to EMT-P)
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment physical prior to being placed into the position.
  • Participate in a cardiovascular physical fitness program.
  • Responding to Fire/Rescue, EMS/Medical, Hazardous Material incidents and/or emergencies.
  • Perform temporary duty travel for the purpose of obtaining specialized training and other fire emergency services duties.
  • Wear various Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to include respirators, masks, self- contained breathing apparatus and armored vests and equipment.
  • Performing advanced assessment and treatment of patients.
  • Wear a uniform and safety apparel in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Report for duty during inclement weather, natural disasters and other emergency situations as directed by the Fire Chief and may be required to remain on duty after the official shift ends, (e.g., mandatory overtime, subject to recall to duty)
  • Providing fire and safety training using a wide variety of materials.
  • Operating specialized equipment to combat hazardous fire situations.
  • Subject to periodic (e.g., manual) medical examinations following appointment to determine fitness for continued performance of the duties of the position.
  • Extinguishing fires in situations involving hazards that are difficult to recognize.
  • Participate in tests and exercises during non-duty work hours, to include nights, weekends, holidays and when recalled.
  • Drive a government vehicle and maintain a valid State driver’s license;

Required Education & Experience:

  • Current State Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-P) or National Registry
  • Current Drivers License in state of residence
  • You must successfully pass a background investigation.
  • You qualify for this position at the GS-09 level (starting salary $61,947) if you possess the following: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-08) in the Federal Service. This experience may have been gained in the federal government, a state or local government, a non-profit organization, the private sector, or as a volunteer; however, your resume must clearly describe at least one year of specialized experience.
  • You must be able to obtain and maintain a Government credit card.
  • Selective Service registration required.
