Position Summary:

This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, Management Directorate, Federal Protective Service, Washington, District of Columbia. The primary purpose of this position is to provide daily support to assigned facility(s) which includes the monitoring and review of facilities operations and maintenance, renovation and repair/replacement work performed under contract.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Determining deficiencies to prepare packages for construction and repair; and
  • Reading blueprints and shop drawings in order to interpret engineering specifications;
  • Determines solutions to safety and health issues and problems that are a result of rapidly changing environmental conditions within and without the facility(s); making complex technical decisions (i.e., such as taking action to add or change electric power equipment to meet load requirements, determining if and when a building needs to be evacuated, or have special testing performed, etc.).
  • Consults with management and planning personnel in preparing requirements and criteria for complex or high value facility projects or programs.
  • Analyzes contractor effectiveness for technical service contracts and/or cost type contracts. Note: Your resume must explicitly indicate how you meet this requirement, otherwise you will be found ineligible.
  • Resolves issues and provides advice on matters where policies or decisions covering major area of uncertainty in approach or methodology are required and where new techniques or information must be developed.
  • Evaluates and considers a variety of actors in planning facilities maintenance operations, including the structural soundness of buildings, deciding between preventive maintenance and major maintenance, and the selection of procedures and processes.

Required Education & Experience:

  • One-year probationary period may be required.
  • This position requires a pre-employment drug test and a negative drug test prior to appointment into the position.
