Position Summary:

The Role The New Product Introduction (NPI) Engineering Technician will report to the NPI Supervisor and will be responsible for performing NPI Builds, line trials and maintaining the NPI area. This person is expected to be able to execute against provided manufacturing instructions (if available), validate their own work, check the quality of previous operations, mentor production associates, lead builds in defined area, and meet schedules. The NPI Technician is expected to be able to provide feedback, define standard work, and suggest process improvements. Experience with hand tools and use of semi-automated manufacturing equipment is necessary

Key Responsibilities:

  • Complete tasks as directed by manufacturing schedules and within standard times and maintain a clean and orderly work area.
  • Perform complex and precise electro-mechanical assembly work and be able to work independently once a task is assigned, make connections with other employees, works fluidly with the team to achieve great results.
  • Support NPI Trial build activities
  • Identify discrepant materials/components both in writing and verbally to supervisor.
  • Typically involves a variety of operations, including troubleshooting and rework, requiring a sufficient understanding of the functional operation of the items assembled as well as the finished product.
  • Updates production records and test results, records process improvements, and manufacturability suggestions.
  • Must be able to work from complex and detailed manufacturing documentation, drawings, and/or verbal and written instructions and specialized fixtures/test equipment.
  • Have a quick and flexible approach to problem solving, task juggling, and collaboration.
  • Coach and effectively lead production teams through launches
  • Responsible for quality activities, including self-inspection, and inspection. Be comfortable working on multiple projects simultaneously, interacting with multiple teams.
  • Communicates test results, ideas and problems to supervisor and engineers.
  • Maintain NPI Pilot Lines to keep current with changes in product design and manufacturing process
  • Escalate build issues through the proper channels and group until resolution

Required Education & Experience:

  • Must be reliable, have good initiative, committed, and quality focused and have the ability to manage his/her time to juggle multiple tasks and to prioritize tasks.
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in assembly of electro-mechanical components.
  • Fluent in MS Office Suite
  • Ability to lift 30-50 lbs on a daily basis and to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Ability to perform repetitious duties while standing for long periods of time.
  • Must have command of the English language, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to read and understand manufacturing instructions and mechanical drawings with basic understanding of electrical systems.
  • Previous experience leading/mentoring indirect reporting crews of 5 or more
  • Must have a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail married with the ability to work quickly.
  • Basic machine shop skills desired with welding skills a plus.
  • Basic understanding of electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
