Position Summary:
The Airport Public Safety Officer is responsible for the safety and security of passengers, employees and property at the Corpus Christi International Airport by enforcing local, state and federal laws and regulations in addition to responding to all medical and fire emergencies. This position requires the ability to utilize critical thinking and communication skills to work as part of a team or as an individual to respond to and resolve incidents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Respond to all emergencies involving aircraft inbound/outbound and in proximity to the Airport, as required in the Airport Emergency Plan.
- Conducts safety and security inspections of the public, secured, and airfield areas of the airport.
- Maintain and operate aircraft rescue vehicles; apply necessary extinguishing agents and conduct fire suppression in critical areas establishing fire control while performing rescue of victims.
- Designated as essential for natural disasters and is part of the post incident response team.
- Responsible for all law enforcement services at the Airport including the enforcement of local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
- Drive specialized fire fighting vehicles with elevated water ways to landing or crash sites.
- Conducts fire safety inspections of facilities including fuel farms and vehicles to ensure NFPA 407 and local fire code compliance.
- Interact with the general public through CCIA tours and other outreach programs. and provide code enforcement for the Storm Water Pollution Protection Plan.
- May be asked to perform other duties as assigned.
- Provide emergency medical treatment by responding to all emergency medical calls on, and in proximity to the Airport; assess and provide emergency medical treatment (at Basic Life Support level) to victims in order to save lives and minimize injuries.
- Monitor airfield construction for safety and security compliance.
Required Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Six (6) months to one (1) year of experience
- A valid driver’s license is required at time of hire. Successful out of state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver’s license within 90 days of hire
- Must have one of the following certifications at time of hire: TCOLE Basic Peace Officer or TCFP Structural Fire
- Must be 21 years of age to be eligible to obtain TCOLE certification
- Preference will be given to applicants who have all certifications at time of application
- Position requires an individual to achieve and maintain the following four state certifications within eighteen (18) months of hire: Basic Peace Officer (TCOLE), Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighter (TCFP), Structural Fire Fighter (TCFP) and Emergency Medical Technician (TDH/National Registry)
