Position Summary:
In this position, you will serve as a Mitigation Specialist supporting Region Seven with the delivery of Mitigation programs and services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assisting in the administration of disaster assistance programs,
- Preparing written correspondence such as reports, instructions, and/or briefings; and,
- Reviewing and evaluating multi-hazard mitigation plans submitted by State, Tribal, and local governments.
- Coordinating and supporting the implementation of mitigation programs.
- Providing technical assistance on mitigation programs.
- Conducting risk analysis and administering programs and plans impacting the delivery of mitigation programs and services.
- Developing presentations, reports, and technical materials in relation to hazard mitigation programs.
- Collaborating with the State, promoting partnerships and training of Federal, State, local, tribal, territorial, nongovernmental organizations, and private sector to increase understanding of mitigation programs
- Providing technical advice and guidance on the delivery of disaster mitigation programs and services.
- Applying laws, regulations, and policies related to disaster management operations;
- Developing presentations, reports, and technical materials in relation to hazard mitigation programs; and,
- Assisting in the analysis and/or evaluation of programs to provide recommendations.
- Writing, reviewing, and interpreting hazard mitigation laws, regulations, and policies applicable to FEMA.
Required Education & Experience:
- You qualify for this position at the IC-11 level (starting salary $67,052) if you possess the following: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (IC-09) in the Federal Service. This experience may have been gained in the federal government, a state or local government, a non-profit organization, the private sector, or as a volunteer; however, your resume must clearly describe at least one year of the following specialized experience.
- 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
- You qualify for this position at the IC-12 level (starting salary $80,367) if you possess the following: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (IC-11) in the Federal Service. This experience may have been gained in the federal government, a state or local government, a non-profit organization, the private sector, or as a volunteer; however, your resume must clearly describe at least one year of the following specialized experience.
- You qualify for this position at the IC-09 level (starting salary $55,419) if you possess the following: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (IC-07) in the Federal Service. This experience may have been gained in the federal government, a state or local government, a non-profit organization, the private sector, or as a volunteer
- Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
