Position Summary:

This position is with FEMA’s Regional Offices, Region Three, Response Division, Operational Planning Branch.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting various regional and branch functions as required by Geographic Information System (GIS) initiatives.
  • Coordinating with appropriate geospatial stakeholders to prevent duplication of effort and to promote information sharing.
  • Analyzing data to make recommendations for improvements; and
  • Utilizing GIS technologies or data visualization software to compile data and generate reports;
  • Providing written and verbal communication to stakeholders on Emergency Management related activities.
  • Providing key project assistance in the development of program standards, doctrine, training exercises, and FEMA Qualification System requirements.
  • Assisting with the application of GIS programs and policies; and
  • Performing activities in operational areas such as; modeling, tool development, and remote sensing.
  • Assisting in preparing emergency management plans and policies.
  • Utilizing GIS software to assist with data analysis;

Required Education & Experience:

  • Master’s or equivalent graduate degree
  • Travel will be required.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
  • You qualify for this position at the IC-11 level if you possess the following: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (IC-09) in the Federal Service. This experience may have been gained in the federal government, a state or local government, a non-profit organization, the private sector, or as a volunteer; however, your resume must clearly describe at least one year of specialized experience.
  • You must successfully pass a background investigation.
  • 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a PH.D. degree or PH.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
  • You must be a U.S. citizen to be considered for this position.
