Key Responsibilities:

Performing inspections and engaging in activities related to imports and exports, domestic production and/or movement of various goods under the Plant Health, Seed, and Fertilizer Programs. Conducting inspection-related activities such as reviewing standards, regulations and policies; completing reports and issuing government documents; reviewing compliance; communicating compliance-related issues with regulated parties; participating in investigations and providing clarification to consumers, industry, and other government departments and/or agencies on regulations and program policies.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Willing and able to be immunized as indicated by job risk, location, overseas travel and other identified risks.
  • To assume responsibility for making transportation arrangements to get to diverse and distant work sites in a timely and efficient manner
  • To have and maintain a valid BC Class 5 driver`s license or recognized Canadian equivalent
  • To use prescribed and provided respiratory equipment that meets the respiratory program requirements; to undergo fit testing (e.g. may need to be clean-shaven, depending on the respirator design).
  • Planning and Organizing
  • Inspection experience in Horticulture, Fertilizer, Forestry, Grain, Seed, or Survey Plant Health programs.
  • Written Communication
  • Experience in applying plant science(s) related to the delivery of one or more CFIA inspection programs.
  • Experience in sampling, investigation and inspection of agricultural products
  • Willing and able to travel in small boats and/or small aircracfts
  • Willing and available to work overtime, as required
  • To use in the prescribed circumstances and manner all prescribed safety materials, equipment, devices and clothing.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Willing and available to work irregular hours (e.g., days, nights, weekends, statutory holidays)
  • Experience in the inspection or sampling of plant/seed/fertilizer products from various manufacturing or import facilities.
