Position Summary:

Cancer Research and Analytics (CR&A) aims to deliver a comprehensive and integrated Data Environment for Cancer Inquiries and Decisions (DECIDe) containing patient-specific cancer related clinical information. This will allow CR&A to present information in an intuitive fashion for optimal and timely patient-specific decision making, while also enabling the creation of reports and dashboards for administrative, patient care, quality improvement, education and research purposes. Cancer patient data is currently stored across several disparate Electronic Medical Record systems, with Connect Care soon to be added. The Architect plays a key role in the delivery of this large project and the overall architecture of the data warehousing and business intelligence components of the DECIDe solution. This position works provincially with key areas in CCA and AHS to support the development of DECIDe, with specific focus on the data environment architecture. To meet the technical and information needs of CCA with regards to the extraction, analysis, manipulation, and protection of data residing in the EMRs, this position will design and maintain the environment to support the above strategic initiatives. A high level of technical expertise are requirements for the position. The successful candidate must be able to work independently with minimal guidance, but within the specified framework, to develop, maintain and support DECIDe. The ability to resolve complex problems by applying industry best practices and clinical policies and guidelines is essential. This position will ensure that DECIDe architecture enables cancer care units to achieve their business objectives. They are also responsible for overseeing and advising on the work of individuals that may be responsible for specific dimensions of the architecture requiring specialized expertise or effort.

Required Education & Experience:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Data Science, or related discipline with strong quantitative component (e.g. Mathematics, etc.)
  • A minimum of 5 years’ of experience with design and development of large, complex applications or systems.
  • Expert level knowledge of industry best practices with respect to architecture disciplines in major accountability areas identified above.
  • Thorough understanding of optimal database performance techniques and skilled in multiple database platforms, including Oracle and SQL Server.
  • Expertise in all areas of data warehousing (architecture, data sourcing/acquisition, integration, transformation, presentation).
  • Experience in designing conceptual, logical and physical dimensional data models.
  • Understanding of overall ETL architecture including key designs on integration standards such as loading, real time/batch, stored procedure, data validation, etc Applied management skills within operational (ITIL) disciplines.
  • Ability to design systems in a multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Creative problem solving and design skills.
  • Certification in specific data warehousing and business intelligence tools, ITIL foundations and project management an asset.
  • Experience in TOGAF or other enterprise architecture knowledge also desirable.
  • Knowledge of clinical environments and clinical analytics.
