Position Summary:

The Manager of Corporate Safety SMS Safety Assurance is responsible for providing program oversight, training and administration for the enterprise Safety Management System.
Support the implementation, maintenance and oversight of United’s SMS and liaison with all of the operating groups and business units across United. In addition, interface with other industry partners to include airports, express and codeshare partners and service providers. Provide oversight as part of the safety assurance function of the Part 5 rule.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the development of safety promotion communications and the maintenance of safety objectives on Flying Together
  • Support the development and oversight of SMS training across the enterprise
  • Provide oversight of United’s SMS compliance to 14 CFR Part 5
  • Help organize and maintain electronic records, distribution-lists and SMS reports
  • Engage with industry peers to determine best practices
  • Data Administration
  • Share United’s SMS with other industries and educational institutions
  • Ensure there is consistent, unified approach to SMS across all operating groups and business units
  • Continue to keep United’s SMS on the leading edge

Required Education & Experience:

  • SMS certification from MITRE/USC, or related certifications
  • Master’s degree
  • Demonstrated advanced use of Microsoft Project, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Publisher and Vision
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Exposure to cross-functional change management/facilitation
  • Ability to work independently, and handle stress in a fast paced, multi-task oriented atmosphere
  • Attention to detail and Change Management awareness
  • 4+ years in a related field with minimum of 2 or more years work experience in the field of transportation safety, aviation management or aviation safety
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Proven problem solving and organizational skills
  • Work experience in administration of safety risk assessments
  • Work experience in technical writing, project management, and administration organization
  • Working knowledge with standard documentation processes
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written and presentation skills
  • Ability to quickly understand complex systems and explain them to varied audiences
  • Position will require travel up to 25% around the United system to provide oversight and support
  • Understanding of basic project management principles
  • Work experience in statistics, reports and data visualization
  • Working knowledge of pertinent Federal Aviation Regulations (14 CFR Part 5 and Part 121), FAA Advisory Circulars, IOSA and
  • Standards and Recommended Practices, ISO 9001 standards, CAST SE and documentation standards
  • Work knowledge of IT collaboration/development with focus on user experience
  • Working knowledge of Sitecore, ETQ (Excellence Through Quality), and/or Foundry (Palantir)
  • Working knowledge of Safety Management System, system safety and quality management
  • Demonstrate ability to use Sitecore
