Position Summary:

The principal activities will be to analyse the need for legal services in Civil & Criminal categories of law to inform the LAA’s decisions as to what level of capacity is to be procured following through the interpretation and manipulation of complex datasets. This role will also provide support and strategic management information during the verification and implementation of the tender process and presenting the key information in a format that is readily understood by the Senior Management Team. On completion of each tender, to evidence that the required capacity for the delivery of Legal Aid services is in place and to review collate data to inform regular reviews of access and capacity through the duration of the contract.  There will be a requirement to produce ad hoc reports as and when needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Delivering on tasks through the whole life cycle, including gathering initial requirements, delivering products and benefits realisation, in a cost effective and timely manner.
  • Develop functionality in Excel to support tender processes.
  • Continuously improve the existing use of data to improve service through embracing innovation and best practice.
  • Design and manage databases adhering to the LAA MI Strategy and Data Protection standards
  • Supervising a small team of Commissioning Analysts and manage them through the application of the LAA HR policy and techniques.
  • Analyse tender outcomes to assess availability and capacity of legal aid services
  • Coach and develop them through the Performance Management Framework setting standards for delivery of outputs and behaviours.
  • Communicate to a variety of audiences on topics as requested through presentations, workshops, written reports and publicising achievements of the team.
  • Lead on Quality assurance for all datasets produced

Required Education & Experience:

  • Ability to build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills.
  • Effective communication skills both written and verbal
  • Willingness to learn Structured Query Language (SQL) (interpreting and editing as needed)
  • Takes pride in creating products that are accurate, easy to understand and on time
  • Passionate about using data to inspire progress and empower others to make the right decisions
  • Proactive in seeking better ways of working and innovation
  • Advanced experience of working with large data sources using Excel or MI tools and producing reports.
  • Willingness to learn Visual Basic for Applications (VBA)
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office
