Position Summary:

The Cloud Infrastructure Engineering Director is responsible for leading the cloud engineering service. This includes the creation of a technology framework, building out internal or MSP teams and providing technical expertise in support of NFL IT Core Technology initiatives in cloud computing and automation. This also includes a focus on the operational and lifecycle components related to cloud service maturity.
The Cloud Infrastructure Engineering Director reports into the IT Core Technology organization, providing senior level cloud architectural road maps, hands on engineering work when required and to institute best practices. Additionally, the Cloud Infrastructure Engineering Director will be responsible for ensuring that critical applications are designed and optimized for high availability and disaster recovery from an infrastructure perspective. This includes hands on work and directing junior engineers or MSPs in operations, R&D and Cloud life cycle services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure delivered solutions meet/perform to technical and functional/non-functional requirements
  • Define optimal design patterns and solutions for high availability and disaster recovery for applications
  • Provide leadership and technical direction for NFL cloud end-to-end architectures, including AWS, Azure, and future providers
  • Ensure delivered solutions are handed off operationally with appropriate documentation (e.g., best practices, design documents, run books)
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of DevOps tool chains and processes
  • Work closely with the cloud program manager to assign engineering resources to projects and team initiatives, develop success criteria, and ensure department goals are being met
  • Develop solutions architectures and evaluate architectural alternatives for private, public and hybrid cloud models, including IaaS, PaaS, and other cloud services
  • Assist in driving scope definition where needed, technical design, and validation of proposed operational workflows
  • Demonstrate applied knowledge of cloud architecture and implementation features (OS, multi-tenancy, virtualization, orchestration, elastic scalability)
  • Provide technical expertise and leadership in the diagnosis and resolution of an issue
  • Contribute to cross-functional DevOps development activities with other groups
  • Proven ability to build and direct a team providing infrastructure services across cloud platforms.
  • This includes both internal engineers, and MSPs.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Ability to balance project-based workloads and daily tasks
  • Good analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Strong understanding of client/server systems, including Microsoft and Linux
  • Exposure to multiple, diverse technologies and processing environments
  • Experience working in a media and entertainment environment highly preferred
  • Experience working with less technical departments and translating technical requirements into actionable tasks and projects
  • 10 + years of experience spanning at least two IT disciplines, including technical architecture, network management, application development, and operations
  • Strong applicable knowledge of cloud security concepts and AWS best practices
  • Strong understanding of network architecture, including internal routing
  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS and Azure enterprise implementations, especially pertaining to migration to cloud and hybrid environments
  • Ability to work with project management tools to provide detailed reports and project task timelines
  • Mandatory 8 + years hands-on experience with AWS core infrastructure components including expert level experience with Lambda, IAM, S3, EC2, direct connect, VPC, ELB, and Route 53
