Position Summary:
Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Controls Technician to provide operations support for the ramp up of the factory and contribute to the design of robust and stable equipment. This Technician will be at the forefront of controls technology and will be responsible for the advanced cell manufacturing equipment that produces Tesla’s cutting-edge batteries.
The Controls Technician will also work with cross-functional teams throughout the entire lifecycle of the product and processes. He/She will work closely with Engineering and Equipment Maintenance to troubleshoot and maintain production.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify continuous improvement projects to improve personal and equipment safety, operator ease of use, product quality, and equipment uptime
- Escalate line down situations per protocol and interface with engineering and operations teams
- Work with hand tools, multi-meters, and testing equipment to diagnose electrical systems ranging from 24VDC to 600VAC
- Repair, replace, install and commission automation components include cables and connectors, sensors, VFD and servo drives, and other electro-mechanical devices
- Read and interpret PLC code to assist the production team in diagnosis of line down situations and/or fault conditions
- Support the production ramp of manufacturing lines using analytical problem solving methods to troubleshoot components such as electro-mechanical automation equipment, PLCs, motion controls, vision systems and robots
Required Education & Experience:
- Preferred experience with semi-automated / automated manufacturing equipment
- Proficiency interpreting electrical, network, pneumatic, and hydraulic diagrams
- Proficiency in selecting/integrating appropriate circuit protectors, wire and cable, sensors.
- Availability for AWS schedule working 12 hour shifts 4 days one week and 3 day the next
- Preferred experience with Vision systems (Cognex, Keyence, etc)
- Experience with Allen Bradley, Beckhoff, Omron, Siemens, B&R, and/or Mitsubishi
- Minimum of 2 years of controls technician experience in a high-volume manufacturing/industrial environment or applicable technical certificate / degree
- Proficiency diagnosing Ethernet and other device interface communications between PLCs, SCADA, MES, and other systems (EtherCAT, ProfiNet, Modbus, Powerlink, RS232, etc.)
