Position Summary:

The selected biological technician will perform some or all of the following duties under the supervision of the park’s Plant Ecologist and/or Restoration Team Leader: (1) manage non-native plants cooperatively with staff and volunteers using manual, mechanical and chemical methods; (2) maintain and care for tools, equipment and supplies; (3) keep records of herbicide use and field work; (4) inventory and map the distribution and abundance of native and non-native plants using Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment; (5) use Geographic Information System (GIS) software to prepare maps and locate sites; (6) propagate native plants at the park’s native plant nursery; (7) prepare sites and revegetate disturbed areas using native plant materials; (8) collect native seeds and cuttings; and (9) use computer software to compile data, analyze data and prepare reports. The selected technician also may assist with other resource-management activities at the park, such as monitoring habitat conditions, evaluating amphibian populations, assisting with deer and/or coyote surveys, monitoring butterfly/pollinator populations, and assisting with restoration of fish and wildlife on park land.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Successful completion of at least four years of education above high school (120 semester hour or 180 quarter hours) leading to a bachelor’s degree with major study or 24 semester hours of course work in a related field (such as in biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, ecology, or mathematics, or other directly-related subject matter); and at least 6 semester hours of this coursework was in plant or botany-related subjects. You must include transcripts.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
