Position Summary:
Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for an Environment & Sustainability Regional Lead to join our Enabling Functions team to work with our London and South East projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide projects with technical advice, guidance and support on environmental and sustainability matters;
- Support work winning through writing and tailoring bid responses;
- Translate policies, standards & targets for the local sectors/ delivery units;
- Support delivery of London, UK and Group Environment and Sustainability requirements;
- Support projects to deliver Social Value;
- Work with project teams to ensure appropriate community investment is included within work winning and project delivery seeking support from the functions as required;
- Programme manage the implementation;
- Support winning business teams with environment and sustainability, including social value, responses for bids and PQQs;
- Work within agreed SBU goals, facilitate and support sustainable solutions, develop appropriate business cases and review best practice from across the industry and within the SBU;
- Support project teams to ensure they are compliant with all environmental legislation and the environmental processes and procedures outlined in the BMS;
- Support customer engagement and working relationship development;
- Provide sustainability expertise to the leadership teams;
- Support project compliance with the environmental and sustainability requirements of the
- Business Management System (BMS);
- Lead the existing Regional sustainability team;
- Lead the development and delivery of the Regional sustainability strategy;
- Carry out investigations on environmental incidents and feedback any lessons learned;
- Develop and lead the Strategic Business Unit strategy and plan to deliver;
- Actively contribute to learning, sharing of best practice via the UK Centre or Excellence.
- Actively lead best practice and innovation within Regional;
- Lead the delivery of the Regional sustainability performance management and reporting;
Required Education & Experience:
- Experience within the construction industry, or similar.
- Relevant environmental or sustainability degree;
- Competence in environmental incident investigation;
- Understanding of current local authority/government policy and future policy within relevant geographical region and how these can affect Balfour Beatty, customers, suppliers, communities & stakeholders requirements;
- Demonstrates commitment to continual learning to refine, further develop and apply expertise to add distinctive value to customers and Balfour Beatty;
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate with a broad range of stakeholders.
- Ability to undertake project planning, project management and work to budgets;
- Ability to develop business cases to support the implementation of the Sustainability;
- A proactive nature and ability to influence and promote a positive culture;
- Understanding of UK policy, environmental legislation, regulatory frameworks and experience in briefing senior managers on changes in legislation or policy and how these might affect their area of work;
