Position Summary:

Under the technical direction of the Aviation Officer III, Chief of Flight Operations; and supervision of the Chief of Aviation (Senior Aviation Officer)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all contracting processes and with the assistance of the Chief Helicopter Pilot, evaluate Department contracted helicopter operators.
  • Liaise with contract vendors and cooperators in the contracting and evaluation processes.
  • Actively participates on all Interagency/cooperator committees.
  • Responsible for conducting pre/post-maintenance functional checks on Department helicopters including coordinating the repositioning of aircraft.
  • Work with the Helicopter Chief Pilot in providing technical direction to all AMU assigned Forestry Fire Pilots.
  • Assist with inter-agency carding of Call When Needed and Exclusive Use contracted helicopter.
  • Assists the Helicopter Maintenance Department in the management of base-level ground support equipment and helicopter maintenance checks.
  • Responsible for managing research and development efforts for emerging technologies and equipment.
  • Liaise with aircraft and equipment manufacturers in determining application, feasibility, and costs associated with new equipment.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Chief of Flight Operations and Chief of Aviation.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Must continuously maintain all certifications defined in the Aviation Officer II (Operations) classification specification.
