Position Summary:
The full performance grade of positions filled will be the GS-05, GS-06 or GS-07 level.
Key Responsibilities:
- Duties described are at the minimum target grade for this announcement, GS-05:
- Provides technical support to the heritage resources staff.
- Transfers GPS data to a GIS Arc View program loaded in a computer to create a map.
- Performs on-the-ground area surveys for surface and subsurface evidence of historic and prehistoric archeological remains.
- Performs a variety of computations and assessments of standard archeological data.
- Conducts inventories of cultural resources in areas of proposed Forest Service projects.
Required Education & Experience:
- The ability to obtain and maintain weapons certification is a condition of employment in this position as the incumbent will be required to carry a firearm.
- You must have lived and or worked in or near the geographic boundaries of the Chugach National Forest or Tongass National Forest and have special knowledge or expertise concerning the natural and cultural resources in Southcentral or Southeast, Alaska area to participate in archeological technician activities.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- To maintain employment in this position the incumbent must receive a negative pre-certification drug test result and be enrolled in the random drug testing program. Appointment and continued employment is conditional on negative results.
- Successful completion of a 2-year probationary period is required.
