Position Summary:

Due to increased workload we are seeking to recruit a Principal Geotechnical Design Engineer. The successful candidate will undertake and oversee production of geotechnical design, leading a dedicated geotechnical design engineering team within our rail business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and administer contracts, including responding to project related correspondence
  • Work with project managers in the preparation of cost estimates and subsequent successful delivery of commissions to programme and within budget
  • Provide office or contract level support to the training, mentoring and development of staff to achieve appropriate professional qualifications and career ambitions, playing an active role in the delivery of training programmes
  • Ensure compliance with relevant health, safety and environmental legislation, including CDM Regulations
  • Provide specialist engineering advice and support to the bidding process
  • Undertake line management duties as required
  • Support the Technical Director or PEM for the functional performance of all technical staff within the team
  • Build collaborative relationships with other engineering staff which contribute to improved technical performance across the business
  • Oversee the production of technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements
  • Manage planning, programming, cost control and administration of engineering deliverables for multiple schemes, possibly as part of a specific Contract as a Contract lead
  • Ensure compliance with the Integrated Management System and contribute to its ongoing development thereof
  • Act as Amey’s local specialist within the specific discipline, providing advice, guidance and supervision as appropriate to internal technical teams, operational managers, clients and suppliers

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate subject
  • Construction Skills Certificate Scheme (CSCS) Manager level desirable
  • Master’s degree in an appropriate subject
  • Able to satisfy the requirements for registration/accreditation as a training manager for an appropriate professional institution, e.g. Supervising Civil Engineer (SCE) for the Institution of Civil Engineers
  • Incorporated Engineer, Chartered Engineer or equivalent level of experience (15+ years)
