Amazon Data Services Canada Inc. is currently hiring for an Engineering and Operations Chief to support our data centers. The Chief is responsible for ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center is operating at peak efficiency. This involves planned preventative maintenance of equipment, daily corrective work, and emergency response. They are expected to be a singular focal point for all facility operations within a given data center. The Chief manages small-to-medium projects from planning to completion, obtains and tracks quotes for all necessary costs and documenting project results for future implementation at other facilities. The Chief supports Engineering Operation technicians and any third-party vendors in their role of providing hands-on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting and operations. This equipment includes, but is not limited to, stand-by diesel generators, switch gear, UPS’s, PDU’s, AHU’s, cooling towers, chemical treatment systems, pumps, motors, VFD’s, and building automation systems.
What you’ll do:
- Utilize internal CMMS to manage building workflows.
- Fully comply with all physical security procedures and policies.
- Oversee the day-to-day operations and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in a data center.
- Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures.
- Communicate complex technical information to a non-technical audience.
- Act as an escalation point for all facilities-related issues within the data center, escalating to the Data Center Facility Manager as needed.
- Create and deploy new standard practices for Engineering Operation Technicians, Chief Technician and vendor support teams.
- Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to by vendors and Amazon staff.
- Respond to off hour emergency calls related to his data centers and help with the investigation, mitigation, and recovery of the issue(s).
- Troubleshoot and report of facility and data sever-level events within internal SLA.
- Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operation Technicians.
- Operate independently with limited direct management.
What you’ll have:
- Bilingual in French and English required.
- 3+ years of relevant work experience in a data center or other critical environment
- Electrical or Mechanical trade (Post Secondary Education)
- Bachelor’s or College’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent work experience in Mechanical/Electrical Field
- Candidates should be able to lift up to 50 lbs and or work in elevated locations.
- Ability to work in an environment that operates 24/7 with an ability to provide after-hours support as needed.
- In depth understanding of the electrical and mechanical systems involved in critical data center operations such as: generators, transformers, switch gear, UPS systems, ATS units, PDU units, pumps, air handling units, and CRAC units
